NEW YORK, August 23, 2011 (NYDN) – Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have paraded around as the perfect Hollywood couple for the better part of two decades, but reports this morning indicate there is trouble in paradise.
According to In Touch, the power couple have decided to call it quits after 13 years of marriage. While this may come as a shock, it must be noted that these are just preliminary reports at the moment.
The couple met when Jada Pinkett auditioned for Will’s old sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” They have two of Hollywood’s rising starlets, “Karate Kid” actor Jaden, 13, and “Whip My Hair” singer Willow, 10. Smith has another son, 18-year-old Willard, from a previous marriage. They were married on Dec. 31, 1997.
Whether or not the Smiths have had an open marriage, accepting of occasional flings, has been a topic of debate for a while. Will has revealed in the past that they openly admit being attracted to other people.
Interestingly enough the couple have fervently denied the prospect of divorce over the years. In a 2009 chat with magazine Ebony, Jada stated :
“When Will asked me to get married, I said, ‘Understand this, there will be no divorce,” she said. “So, you might be in one bedroom and I might be in another, but we’re gonna be under the same roof and we’re gonna be married.’”
Three years prior Will echoed the same sentiments in an interview with MTV.
“Divorce can’t be an option,” “With Jada, I stood up in front of God and said, ‘Til death do us part.’ So there are two possible outcomes. One, we are going to be together till death, or two, I am dead.” Will may want to retract that now.
If these reports prove to be true, the shock-waves will reverberate throughout Hollywood where they were heralded as the ideal couple in a culture where too often the relationships are fickle. This also shows how sudden the prospect of divorce can arise. Just last month the couple was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest, showing off their Calabasas, California mansion, which is now surely to be a major topic of debate.

Not only an open marriage, but close family frowned say Will is bisexual.
